Abstract

This work is part of research realized in a doctoral thesis defended in 2013 and presents the applications developed by the Brazilian broadcasting sector for application in interactive digital TV. There are initiatives from Rede Globo, SBT, Rede Record and Rede Bandeirantes since 2009 and their evolution. The resources visualized at the time of the research were still in an incipient level of development, but are important for recording the history of the development of Brazilian interactive digital TV. For the data collection, interviews were conducted with researchers, engineers and executives of the studied stations. Research conducted at the time shows that interactivity is at an incipient level of development, so for the broadcasting industry, investing in the development of interactive content has become costly without a return on investment. Local interactivity is defined as the one that does not transmit data, only stores it in set-top-box, and has become the main form of interactivity explored by interactive digital TV.
