Décio Pignatari and the prose of invention

  • Kenneth David Jackson

Abstract

In the tale book O Rosto da Memória (1986) and in the urban romance Panteros (1992), the poet Décio Pignatari redirects contemporary prose in direction of the invention. With a conscious project to prose innovation, Décio starts treating it with both verbivocovisuais [verbals, vocals and visuals] and multimedia techniques, that he also used on his concrete poems, as well as in semiology, industrial design, cinema, learning trips, Brazilian everyday and of the intellectual trips of his time. He characterizes his prose project when ironically comments “I guess I have made a half revolution in poetry, and I aim to do the other half: in the prose. In the Geléia Geral country, who did a complete one?”
