The privilege of icon

  • Lucrécia D'Alessio Ferrara

Abstract

Organized through four subheadings, the aim of the present article is to analyze the vast work of Décio Pignatari, within the tradition know as Concrete Poetry. The paradigms of his work, developed through essays, narratives and poems, are found, on one hand, in two famous Paul Valéry essays, “Leonardo and the Philosophers” and “The Method of Leonardo Da Vinci”, in which the well-known concept of analogy is presented; on the other hand, the semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce, especially the concept of icon, divided into hypoicons, denominated image, diagram and metaphor. Between these two philosophers and their respective concepts, it is possible to find the roots of the work of Décio Pignatari, as well as understand the way the poet communicated and cultivated such concepts.
