Transformations and reinterpretations of audiovisual culture in pandemic times: performances at the 2021 Oscar

Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic generated the need for changes in the daily practices of different sectors. The means of communication, in order to reduce the acceleration of the contagion of the virus and to preserve production teams and sources, had many changes in their daily routines. In this context, the Oscar ceremony of 2021 had a different conformation in relation to previous years and the performances of those involved had different contours. Thus, this article aims to analyze the transmission of the Oscar 2021 ceremony, in order to verify the configuration of the ceremony, contemplating the modes of exhibition and performances present from three distinct but interconnected axes: presenters' performances; award-winning performances and audience performances. The article presents reflections that go into the field of aesthetics, linked to the cultural sphere.
