Abstract

This article results from the analysis of posts in the Onde Tem Tiroteio application in order to observe the action of a collaborative urban violence alert system with the generation of a flow of distribution of flagrant images of robberies, shootings or police operations through non-traditional media circuits. Our objective is to discuss to what extent the use by television news of testimonial images captured by common citizens and published in the tool raises conflicts around journalistic authority on television. In this sense, we adopted direct observation as a methodological procedure inspired by virtual ethnography, collecting and analyzing 339 posts and 497 comments in a period of four weeks, between June 10th and July 10th, 2020, in addition to analyzing the news programs in the same period.
