Abstract

Historical images of the great mobilizations of workers during the Getúlio Vargas administrations are present in contemporary times through cinema, which acts as a large image and sound archive for the production of knowledge about political and social experiences. In this sense, we analyze images from the film Getúlio Vargas – glória e drama de um povo, directed by Alfredo Palácios and released in 1956. The feature film is characterized by the use of archival images from newsreels produced throughout the different governments of Getúlio Vargas. We listed the face of the crowd as a procedure for analyzing the film, which shows emotion as a political practice of the working class gathered in large public events. The images observed in Getúlio Vargas – glória e drama de um povo survive by promoting inspirations of political resistance in the present.
