Relevance of Street Culture in Rio de Janeiro in a context of recovery of mega events
Abstract
From the survey of artistic initiatives (especially theater, poetry, circus, music,
visual arts and dance) which are held regularly in public spaces of the city of Rio de Janeiro, this work aims to analyze the importance of these cultural expressions (realized so not only spontaneous but also engaged manner and networking) to build an imaginary, sociability and a more democratic and intercultural daily life in Rio de Janeiro in a context of recovery of mega events. The central assumption is that these cultural meetings (organized by groups and collectives) held in Rio's streets - not the called "mega-events" (which require large resources and the construction of urban structures) - represent an important cultural wealth (and economic), that is, these practices which occupy public spaces in the form of "micro-events" (the majority of few visibility) have been promoting for a long time a more democratic dynamic in this locality and therefore should receive more
state support in the form public policy renewed.
