The state of knowledge about school indiscipline in the early years of elementary education

Abstract

The present study analyzed the academic production on school indiscipline in the early grades of elementary education, using the state of knowledge as methodology. Data were collected from the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), with a temporal scope from 2012 to 2022. Ten productions were identified in this area. Analysis categories included type of production, production location, authors' gender, concepts, most utilized authors, and theoretical-methodological trends. Results revealed a predominance of master's level works, mainly authored by females, with São Paulo state standing out as the most frequent production location. The most utilized authors were Aquino, followed by Foucault, Estrela, Garcia, and Freire. Regarding theoretical-conceptual trends, approaches exploring concepts of power, social control, critical pedagogy, and emancipation were highlighted. These findings suggest a growing concern with school indiscipline in the early grades of elementary education, especially in the context of São Paulo, and underscore the relevance of authors like Aquino and Foucault in the academic discourse on the subject.
